The page-corners have some wear as well, and there are remains of an adhesion inside the back cover. Mild toning of pages and covers. Not a beautiful book, but functional.

Autorenporträt: Uwe Johnson wurde 1934 in Kammin/Vorpommern geboren. Er studierte Germanistik in Rostock und Leipzig. In Rostock weigerte er sich, die staatliche Verleumdung der Jungen Gemeinde zu unterstützen, weshalb er exmatrikuliert wurde. Im Zuge der staatlichen Schadensbegrenzung nach dem 17. Juni 1953 wurde Johnson wieder zum Studium zugelassen. Johnsons Mutter verließ mit seiner Schwester 1956 die DDR. Er blieb. Erst zum Erscheinen seines Romans Mutmassungen über Jakob, 1959, zog Johnson nach Westberlin. Nach den ersten Romanen einigte sich die Kritik zu Johnsons Missfallen auf das Etikett Dichter der beiden Deutschland. 1960 erhielt er den Fontane-Preis der Stadt West-Berlin. Von 1966 bis 1968 lebte er mit seiner Familie in New York, wo er als Schulbuchlektor arbeitete. 1971 wurde der Schriftsteller mit dem Georg-Büchner-Preis ausgezeichnet.
