cloth over papered boards. Condition: Good. 3dr Latin. Also known as "Revelations of Saint Bridget"; this being the 3rd edition in Latin, first published by Koberger in 1500. The book tells of visions seen by one of the six patron saints of Europe, Saint Bridget of Sweden. Bridget first gained popularity in Vadstena Sweden where she had founded the first monastery of "Brigettines" after having "visions" or meetings with Jesus from the age of 10, and later her benevolent works. She later moved to Rome where her influence grew and she became advisor to powerful kings and popes. Her influence in Christian art and culture was widely adopted, she also predicted a separate Catholic state today known as The Vatican (*Wikipedia). This is an incomplete copy printed in two columns; containing numbered leaves 9-183, unnumbered leaves (51, index). Bound with a cloth spine over paper boards with title in pen on spine. The illustrated pages often attributed to Springinklee or Durer, though somewhat contested, are not present in this copy. Mild worming to first 60 leaves or so, marginal damp at times in second 1/2. There are a few contemporary annotations in a clear Latin hand, with nearly a full page on the first page of the index. Browned at edges but not brittle, possible very old mousing to top right margin with no text loss, old library number (21) in ink on the face of text block. This copy belonged to Isaac Newton Lewis, lawyer, historian and writer with his ownership signature on front fly, old book sellers label pasted over ownership label inside front board. Though incomplete, a rare work of religious import.
