[1]-48 (with an extra signature C [pp. 17-24], present here in place of signature G [pp. 49-56]; pp. 57-206 (the whole upper half of pp. 207-208 is torn away. Lacking the folding plate. A textually incomplete copy. Gray paper over boards, with the spine restored with brown paper; later back flyleaf bound in. In a blue leather and cloth-covered slipcase, with chemise. The covers show staining, general wear, brown-spotting present to pages. Page edges are not trimmed. The slipcase is gilt-lettered: Elements of Chess Mather Copy Boston 1865 (for 1805). With the Kalman Kubinyi design bookplate (featuring Richard Mather's Platform of Church Doctrine, and a view of the Gwinn mansion), of Cleveland, Ohio based book collector and descendant of the New England Mathers: William Gwinn Mather (1857-1951), on the front inner cover. With ink inscriptions of 19th century earlier Mather owners on the facing front free endpaper: To Mi'srs L & E Mather from their cousin H. L. Lee. Saml. L. Mather. S. Livingston Mather; and the SLM initials in ink on the title-page, and Sam L. Mather name at p. [3]; pencil note at p. 6: How to place the men. Textually incomplete copy.
