This is the expurgated first edition, there is a sticker on the half-title page that reads, "The blacked-out spaces are in mourning for the poems of E.E. Cummings, for which permission was refused by Harco…urt Brace." Cummings name and two of his poems have been blacked out as his widow withdrew permission after printing, and two pages have been cut out from the book, as issued. This is a review copy with a review slip inserted at the front. Binding is visible at the front endpapers, else internally clean, there is toning to the spine and back cover of the book with some marks else very good condition.

Cummings and then at the last moment after publication, permission was removed by E.E. Cummings and this is indicated by hand with all black out lines and black out wit…h two pages removed. This is the expurgated edition. From the library of poet William Matthews who has fully signed the opening flyleaf as a young man: "William P. Matthews III" dated 1966. Good wraps with overall gentle use and light tanning to back cover. It has been read and loved.
