First Edition
Bob Giusti (illustrator). First Edition of Stephen King's epic about a demonic clown IT by Stephen King Hardcover First Edition - First Printing New York: Viking, 1986 $22.95 cover price. 1120 pages The famous spooky and colorful jacket artwork by Bob Giusti showing a claw coming out of a drain on a rainy day in New England. Beautiful offering of "IT". by Stephen King, near perfect save a couple of tiny imperfections, not often found is this exceptional condition. Issue Points: About 9.5 x 6.5" (24 x 16.5 cm), gray boards with black cloth spine, lettering in red on spine, dark gray end-papers. 1120 pages. No mention of later printings and a lack of a printing number-line on the copyright page which was Viking's convention to indicate first printing trade copies. Clothed in a jacket featuring one of the most intriguing dark fantasy/supernatural illustrations of all time by Bob Guisti. $22.95 cover price. Fine in Fine Original Dust. One of the best copies I've handled. The book itself is just about perfect, straight corners, clean boards, clean pages etc. possibly unread. Just a tiny hint of unevenness to the spine, very slight and common with this book because of the chunky design Jacket has NO imperfections that I can see, tiny hint of toning to the flaps but much less than I've seen in other copies. NOTE: The first edition of "IT" was to the best of my knowledge the first supernatural-horror novel to be issued in about one million hardcover copies in four printings in 1986. No other supernatural horror novel had ever come close even including some of King's previous hardcover books. It's about a demonic entity that manifests itself as a clown. The subtext is about childhood nightmares and fantasies. The story takes place in the fictional town of Derry, Maine. Derry would be referenced in other Stephen King books. "IT" won the British Fantasy Award for Best Novel in 1987, and was nominated for other awards such as the World Fantasy Award. It was the best-selling hardcover book of 1986. (Interestingly "Top Gun" starring Tom Cruise was the highest grossing movie at the box office that same year.) NOTE: The pictures are of the actual item for sale. (The pictures are NOT stock photos.) USPS Shipping: $11.95 media mail shipping, $16.95 ground-advantage mail shipping domestic US, or $24.95 large priority mail box, or $110 international. (Canada buyers, shipping will be a bit less so send me a message if you're out of Canada.) I ship on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays sometimes on Friday. I do not ship on Mondays and Saturdays. IMPORTANT NOTE: All sales are generally FINAL. I do NOT accept returns because of buyer's remorse, "it was a gift but the recipient already had it", or "I found the same book at a better price", or "using my microscope I found a tiny mark on the back end-paper". I am selling collectible books, not new items. Selling prices are based on supply, demand, and condition. Returns are only accepted because of discrepancies regarding edition and/or condition of which I try to be very thorough in researching the edition/printing as well as describing ALL condition issues. So make sure you're 100% positive you desire one of my items before making a purchase. Fine- in Fine Dust Jacket. An exceptional copy, solid binding, straight corners, toning to text-block which plagues most Stephen King's UK editions published from circa 1980 to 2000. Tiny transparent white spot on front board. The jacket is nearly perfect. No imperfections that I can see outwardly, save a small spot on the back which may be related to the spot on the front board. Just about as nice a copy as you're likely to find. $7.50 medial mail, $9.95 padded priority mailer, $16.95 priority box. $35 Canada or $50 UK and international.
