Firm binding; no loose pages. Book with minor wear. Penciled inscription on front endpaper; no other writing or marks noted. Price-clipped jacket with some tanning, foxing, chips and small tears and some loss on top of spine; now encased in a clear protective cover. Frederick Cyril Boden (1902-1971) was an English poet and novelist, born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England, the first born of Benjamin and Annie Boden. After attending school in Chesterfield at 13, Boden began working at the Williamthorpe Colliery, first working underground in 1921 on the night shift above ground. Boden' first poetry anthology 'Pit-head Poems' was published by J. M. Dent & Sons in 1927. Drawing comparison's to D. H. Lawrence, Boden's poetry and novels focused on the mines and miners of Chesterfield. In 1933 Frederick married Dorothy Brecknell. By 1939 he was employed as lecturer in Logic and Philosophy, at the University College in Exeter, and later for the Worker's Education Association.
