Barbier H-812, 3 copies located in COPAC. ~ The first of these works refers to the Great Northern War of 1700-1720] between Sweden and the Russian coalition, in particular the events of 17001721. The Marquis de Bonnac, ambassador of France to Sweden, offers observations on the roles of the Swedish King Charles XII, (1682-1718) and the Russian Emperor Peter the Great (1672-1 725). Barbier states that Bonnac wrote this piece for the Duchess of Bourgogne, mother of Louis XV, and presented it to her in 171]. ~ The second work is anonymous, and is mainly a profile of Prince Francis II Rakoczi (1676-1735) of Transylvania, and his leadership in 1705-1708, during the war for Hungarian independence. Both were "published by M. Fréron. " Elie-Catherine Fréron (1719-1776) was a critic and founding editor of the journal L'Année littéraire, which was published in Paris from 1754-1790, and known during Fréron's time for its caustic attacks on Voltaire.
