Demi-basane rouge de l'époque, dos à faux-nerfs titré à l'or, plats recouverts de papier marbré, tranches jaspées. Rare édition originale de ce considérable travail historique consacré à la ville du Havre par l'historien et enseignant A.E. Borely. Dans sa préface, l'auteur indique les grandes divisions de son ouvrage : Ğ Antiquités et origines, ( La première population lui vint du pays de Caux); le marais de Grasse et la Seine; Fondation de la ville et faits généraux sous les règnes de François Ier et de Henri II; Période des troubles de religion; Epoque de la monarchie absolue et apogée de l'autorité royale; Décadence monarchique et préludes de la révolution, jusqu'aux fêtes de la fédération qui eurent lieu, au Havre le 13 Juin; à Rouen pour tout le nouveau département le 29 Juin; à Paris, pour la France entière le 14 Juillet 1790. A ces époques se rattachent des études spéciales sur les privilèges, les franchises et la constitution de la cité, sur les armements maritimes, les tentatives coloniales et les corsaires havrais, les forces militaires et les mouvements des troupes, le commerce et les compagnies commerciales, l'industrie, les finances, les cultes, l'instruction, les murs et une foule de particularité locales, etc.; enfin, à la suite de chaque grande époque on trouvera une liste des noms des personnes et des familles qui figurent, à divers titres, dans chacune de ces époques ğ.
