Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Daniel Reid was killed on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele. His body was never recovered; however, there is nothing singular about that. AUTHOR: Schooled at St John's College, Johannesburg, James Bourhill holds a doctorate in history from the University of Pretoria.
