The Royal Horticultural Society made its first acquisition ( 5 French gardening books) in 1806. The collection would be complete from that time forward except that the society fell on hard times in 1859 and had to sell off (Sotheby) its entire holding. This is a catalog then of the new acquisitions ( since 1865 approx.). 64 pages to booklet - with 2 or 3 coloured botanical plates, plus a title page illus. from a 1530 German gardening book. Cond: Grey paper wrappers with R.H.S. coat-of-arms front and orig. price (2s. 6d.) - back. Covers extend beyond pages so are folded sli. at that pt. Spine sli. sunned. NO tears, creases NOR names, save prev. owner's signature (v. small) on bottom frontis. GREAT reference for ealy plant material. Quote: (re: Jan Van Der Groen book) (p.23) " Groen was gardener to William, Prince of Orange, later William III of England.
