The chapters are titled: "De l'eglise", "Du palais", "Des assemblees", "Des soirees", "Des diners", "Des visites", "De la Conversation", "Des sejours a la campagne", "Des voyages", "Des parents", "Des amis", "Des domestiques", "De soir, pour les garcons", "De soir, pour les filles". Near the end of the work she gives this piece of advice: " Il est tres-doux d'avoir des gens autour de soi, et de se voir epargner mille petites peines, mais il faut savoir se passer du service d'autrui". The countess of Bradi, a friend of Madame de Genlis, wrote works for young people, short stories and manuals on politeness and the art of writing.
