Printed 1804 book, vii + book advert + 147 pages + book advert. Larger extra pages, 78 pages with manuscript notes, with name of Author (Preston or Butler), the notes go to page 118, i.e they cover the conveyance pert only, as pages 119 to 147 cover the deed part of the book. Condition; Binding quarter leather hardback (looks contemporary i.e c1804-1820) in fair/poor condition, well rubbed with front cover just hanging on, clear title to spine " Points & Maxims in conveyancing ". Contents Printed part in good condition, very little light foxing, rough cut pages with numerous notes by Preston or Butler, including to title page after eminent conveyancer names Mr Bradley & MSS notes by Chas Butler & Rich'd Preston. The extra pages with manuscript notes by Charles Butler & Richard Preston in good condition, a couple of pages with ink staining, also all extra pages after Conveyance part almost mint. This unique item contains the 1st printed edition; published in 1804 (This was a collection of Bradley's notes on points of practice, and the technical minutiae of conveyancing as they were suggested in the course of his professional life.). Joseph Ritson 1752-1803 joined the practice of Ralph Bradley 1717-1788 in the 1750's , and later his own business. Richard Preston 1768-1850 of Lincolns Inn, (was at one time an MP), was author of A Treatise on Conveyancing, London, 18069 in 2 vols. Charles Butler 1750-1832 also of Lincolns Inn, had considerable practice as a conveyancer before joining the legal profession. Interestingly found ref of a 1829 publication by Soloman Atkinson titled Practical points in conveyancing, from the manuscripts of Butler, Preston, and Bradley etc. Cannot be sure, but this may be the original that Atkinson used to write his publication. So this is a unique and important document in relation to conveyancing in the 18th century. The printed part 1804 & the manuscript part c1804-1820. Size: 19.5 x 24cm Approx.
