Man muss nur den Anfang überwinden - theoretischer Balast, wenn man ökonomisch bereits vorgebildet ist. Etwas zu viel Platz nimmt dabei das Prinzip des komplementären Geschäftszweigs ein. Außerdem sorgt die Ankündigung auf mathematische Instrumente komplett zu verzichten für einigen Unmut. Was dann folgt ist ein wahres Feuerwerk an Beispielen - aber nicht etwa erdachte Unternehmen im Ringen um ein, zwei Kunden. IBM, Coca-Cola, NFL, Nintendo sind nur einige Unternehmen, die im Milliardengeschäft, illustriert in diesem Buch, um ihre Existenz "spielen". Gepackt in kleine Absätze und kurze Kapitel lesen sich die 370 Seiten zügig durch ohne dass dabei auf logisch einwandfreie und vollständige Aufschlüsselung verzichtet wird. Die Übersetzung ist allerdings stark verbesserungswürdig. Auf einigen Seiten finden sich teilweise drei Rechtschreibfehler, auf anderen sind Worte doppelt oder der Satzbau völlig daneben. Football mit Fußball zu übersetzen sorgt, wenngleich für den Inhalt des Beispiels unerheblich, für einiges Nachsinnen auf den nachfolgenden Seiten. Zudem muss man sich fragen, ob man einige Beispiele in der Übersetzung mit tragen muss. Es ist nämlich fahrlässig ABC, NBC, CBS, TCI, KBMT, KIII, Corpus Christi und gefühlte 200 weitere Eigennamen auf einer ganzen A5 Seite zu verwenden und vorauszusetzen, dass der Leser sie auseinander zuhalten und richtig zuzuordnen vermag. Die Quintessenz dieses Beispiels ging an mir vorbei, was wohl auch daran liegt, dass der deutschsprachige Leser kaum mit diesen Namen vertraut ist und sie eben nicht instinktiv einordnen kann. Eventuell wäre hier ein Matrixspiel sinnvoll, anstatt wieder und wieder mit den Namen zu jonglieren. Wer sich an dem ohnehin eher unwichtigen Äußerlichkeiten nicht stört, wird sich schnell zufrieden hingeben und mit Freude lesen. Wenn Sie im Schach gewinnen, verliert Ihr Gegenspieler. Barry Nalebuff und Adam Brandenburger zeigen, daß die Dinge im Wirtschaftsleben so einfach nicht liegen. Unternehmen können mehrere Rollen spielen. Auf ihren Absatzmärkten mögen sie hart um Kunden konkurrieren, doch beim Einkauf können Kooperationen mit Mitbewerbern Vorteile für alle Beteiligten bringen.
