Hockey I, 167. - Fjodor Alexandrowitsch Bredichin, auch 'Fyodor Aleksandrovich Bredikhin' (1831-1904) war ein bedeutender Astronom aus dem russischen Adel. Er befasste sich vor allem mit der Beobachtung von Kometen und deren Form, Meteoren und Meteorschauern. Bredichin führte auch die ersten spektroskopischen Untersuchungen an Sternen in Russland aus. Er beobachtete Nordlichter und unternahm Schweremessungen mit Pendeln. Er hatte bedeutende Schüler in Russland und wirkte auch populärwissenschaftlich. Bekannt war er damals für seine mechanische (später überholte) Theorie der Kometenschweife, die er auch in drei Typen klassifizierte. Fiodor Aleksandrovitch Bredikhine né le 8 décembre 1831 à Nikolaïev et mort le 14 mai 1904 dans la même ville, est un astronome russe. Professeur d'astronomie à Moscou, il fut ensuite directeur de l'observatoire de cette ville (1873), puis de celui de Poulkovo (1890). Il a étudié les formes des comètes et les caractéristiques de leurs queues. Partant des idées de Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel (1784-1846) qui pensait que ces queues étaient dues à une force répulsive, il édifia une théorie complète des queues cométaires. C'est lui qui distingua, à l'intérieur des queues de type 2, deux types de lieux géométriques permettant de modéliser ces queues : les synchrones et les syndynes (que l'on appelle parfois syndynames). C'est à Freidriech Bessel, astronome allemand (1784 - 1846), que l'on doit d'avoir eu le premier l'idée d'une force répulsive pouvant générer la queue d'une comète (en 1835). Ces idées furent reprises par Fiodor Bredikhine et lui permirent d'interpréter correctement diverses comètes, dont celle de 1744 et la comète Pons-Brooks qui apparut en 1884. La théorie des synchrones-syndynes a été ensuite reprise et développée en 1967 par Michael FINSON et Ronald PROBSTEIN (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
