Paperback. Condition: New. In Britain the costs of justice - to taxpayers and litigants - have been rising faster than GDP. For efficiency reasons and to encourage innovation, reform is required and some action is already underway. But reform is complicated because 'justice' is a complex product - bought on 'trust' by many consumers and with precedent and spillover effects. Some good ideas for reform are already in circulation. But there is a case for experimentation rather than trying to work out in advance which ideas should be implemented. Market forces should have a bigger role in the civil justice system and there should be more competition in the provision of dispute resolution services. Probable features of a reformed judicial system would be competitive tendering, better information for clients about alternative ways of proceeding and more power for trial judges to control the passage of a case. The supply of judges also needs to be addressed: court fees could be determined by market forces and the proceeds ploughed back into judicial capacity. Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) procedures allow parties a choice of jurisdictions.ADR produces precedents, to the extent they are required, and does not need the threat of litigation in the background. A big advantage of ADR is that it avoids monopolized law which otherwise tends to produce inflexibility, bad rules and politicization.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The New Testament portrays the apostles as placing great emphasis on Jesus' resurrection in their preaching and teaching. This emphasis is often lacking, however, in contemporary preaching and teaching. If Jesus' resurrection is to regain the centrality it held in the apostolic age, its significance must be understood. In this study, Brian Main attempts to understand the significance of Jesus' resurrection in the Gospel of Matthew. Since Jesus' resurrection is the proper conclusion of the story in Matthew, it is necessary to understand what the story is that it concludes. By analyzing the characters, settings, plot, and point of view in Matthew 1:1--4:11, as well as those in the resurrection narrative (28:1-20), Main and his readers come to grasp the expectations that Matthew's audience develops as that story unfolds. As readers understand those expectations, they will gain a better appreciation of what was at stake when Jesus experienced opposition, and therefore of what was restored and guaranteed by his resurrection. Hardback. Condition: Good. Interesting account of New Zealand, well illustrated with many colour and monochrome photos. Focused on the relationship between the US and New Zealand. 'It is easy to say that the two countries have a lot in common. This book attempts to bring that nebulous statement into sharp focus, to define the commonality of history, trade, technology and shared values. The spirit of New Zealand and the spirit of America meet in the love of freedom, of individual achievement and of overcoming, like Richard Pearse, the obstacles in our path to common prosperity.' Chapters include: The Spirit of New Zealand The Lure of New Zealand The Green Country The Face of America in New Zealand Wellington and San Fransisco Original Technologies in New Zealand The Special Challange of Isolation Directory of Contributors Credits Malcolm Sheffield established Sheffield House Publications in the late 1970s. Under this brand, from 1979, he produced a series of books entitled 'This is New Zealand.' Their purpose was to promote New Zealand exporters, businesses, lifestyle, landscape, arts etc. Sometime they also featured other countries such as the USA, Australia, and Singapore. The firms involved with each publication recieved the finished book to give out to clients, particularly foreign clients, as a means of promoting New Zealand achievements and potential. Heavy; Large; No DJ As Issued. 192 pages.
