The author says he was inspired to tell a story of World War II from an everyday person's experience after discovering over two hundred letters sent by my uncle, Harris Tucker, to our family from the time of his enlistment in August, 1942 through his bombing missions in early 1944 over various targets in Germany. There have been many books written about World War II, but this story tells us of the ordinary thoughts and concerns of an Army Air Force Serviceman throughout the various stages of his training and eventual combat life as a B-17 Pilot and 2nd Lieutenant. My hope is that my uncle's letters might help you better appreciate the human characteristics of heroism and shift your perspective on war and what it means to be a hero. Join the journey of discovering the stories of war, combat and healing within your own family. A clean very presentable copy. Inscribed by Author(s).

Soft cover. Condition: Good. First Edition. Pp. 20. Blue covers. Small scuff on left hand side front cover. This was Professor Brian Farrell's own personal copy. His signature in his own hand is in biro on top r/h corner of front cover. Brian Farrell (1929-2014) played a major role in the academic study of Irish political development and Irish political culture, setting these in comparative perspective. His many publications exerted a wide influence, and his model of prime ministerial office as varying between the role of ?chairman? and the role of ?chief? was taken up in the comparative literature. His academic achievements were all the more remarkable in the context of his commitment to public sector broadcasting, and in bringing political analysis to a nationwide audience through RTE. After studying in UCD and Harvard, he joined UCD?s administration in the mid-1950s, and in 1966 he became a member of what was then the Department of Ethics and Politics. He played a central part in developing the study of Irish and comparative politics in this small department. As the department expanded, he played a critical leadership role as head of department for several years. He is remembered by generations of students as a kind, accessible and conscientious mentor and lecturer.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. "This is a memoir worthy of the time it takes to read. It is a sprawling panorama of a fascinating time in the recent history of the country told in a personal, pungent style. While Brian Mulroney takes many liberties in the telling of the story?including a memory lapse on his entanglements with Karl-Heinz Schreiber?and erodes its value by his pit bull attacks, he does add to our understanding of where we have been, which can give better insight as to where we should go." (from a review by Lloyd Axworth). Hardcover in Fine condition in a fine dust jacket, large thick 8vo, pages: 1121. Blue boards, spine titles in gold, facsimile manuscript end-papers, black-and-white plates, index. First Canadian edition.
