Ink signatures or inscriptions on front free endpapers of first 2 vols. Spine ends softened with small tears. A little fading or discolouration to spine cloth, esp. vol. 3. A comprehensive look at the RCAF's activities during the Second World War. The volumes covers events such as the Battle of Britain, the air offensive over northern France, fighter operations after Dieppe, convoy patrols and interceptions, the Battle of the Atlantic, preparations for invasion, the Italian Campaign, etc. The Fifth Year and The Sixth Year were printed in smaller numbers, making them scarcer, so that a complete set is hard to acquire.

Uniformly bound in publisher's original navy-blue cloth over boards, gilt lettering and ornamentation over maroon spine labels. Black-and-white photographic frontispieces, accompanied with dozens of black-and-white photographs, portraits, illustrations, aerial photographs, charts, tables, illustrations, etc. Light rubbing, and edgewear to the cloth extremities, slight bump to head and tail of spines. Contents remain entirely without blemish with clean, and unmarked pages, and firm sound bindings. Overall, very good. Vol. I & II lacking their dustjackets, Vol. III accompanied with its original shelfworn dustjacket showing chips and short closed tears along the edges of the panels (now housed in protective mylar cover). Overall, very good. Scarce to be offered in commerce as a complete three-volume set.

Loose Broadside Certificate. Condition: Near Fine. A Ships' Companies appreciation certificate, likely issued in 1946 by Brooke Claxton, who was then Minister of National Defence, having his printed and embellished signature at bottom. The certificate measures 19 x 13.75 inch wide, is printed in black, and is additionally hand embellished in red, blue and green. It was issued to recognize the support given during the war by the Kokanee Chapter (Nelson, BC) of the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire, to the wartime crews serving on the HMCS Kootenay and HMCS Kokanee. The certificate is toned w. a tiny stain at lower left corner, else a fine copy of this Kootenay piece. "The Kokanee Chapter of the IODE (Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire) was established in 1915 in Nelson, B.C. During World War I, the women's group carried out a variety of services for soldiers overseas and for servicemen on leave." Memory B.C.
