Couverture souple. Condition: Très bon. Earle K. Bergey, Howard V. Brown, G. Mayorga (illustrator). Description : Numéro 822 dans la collection.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the transformative impact of the Opium Wars on the landscape of trade in East Asia. The author highlights the escalating tensions between Great Britain and China caused by the influx of British goods, particularly opium. The narrative captures the clash of economic interests, political power, and cultural differences that shaped the complex relationship between the two nations during this tumultuous period. The author analyzes the ripple effects of the conflict on the economies, societies, and diplomatic ties of both countries, delving into the intricacies of the opium trade, the human cost of the wars, and the challenges of establishing peaceful relations. The book ultimately sheds light on the profound impact of these historical events on the development of East Asia and international relations, offering insights into lingering economic and cultural disparities, as well as ongoing geopolitical dynamics in the region. "When you stop to consider you will realize that while the average sportsman does not consider himself interested in optics, there are but few who do not own some type of rifle scope, spotting scope, a pair of binoculars or a camera. .It is a fact that the average sportsman's knowledge of the essentials of optics and what should be looked for in order to produce the most suitable equipment for a particular purpose, is practically nil. He depends in most cases 100 percent upon the persuasiveness of the salesman (who frequently knows little more than the customer) and of course, upon a few outstanding names such as Bausch & Lomb and Zeiss, which are in themselves a guarantee of quality. .One of the principal reasons for the general ignorance on this subject is that it is normally such a highly technical one that books on the subjects are far beyond the comprehension of the average man. Up to this time, no book has ever been published which has made basic optics really basic - yet sufficiently thorough, while at the same time being readable and extremely interesting to anyone with the slightest inclination to increase his knowledge along these lines. .[This book] has been written with emphasis on those points in which the sportsman would be most interested. Particular attention has been given to the matter of rifle and spotting scopes, as well as binoculars and cameras. A short outline on the principles of microscopes and astronomical telescopes has been included." (From the preface by A.F. Stoeger). Chapters include:- Optical terms and concepts; Basic optical components; Instruments and the eye; Rifle scopes; Binoculars; Telescopes; Cameras; The microscope; Optical malfunctions; Deterioration of optical instruments; Maintenance of optical instruments; Theoretical optics. Appended is a glossary of optical terms. .

LP Record in Gatefold Jacket. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Mainstream MS/5000. Definitive recordings by one of the greatest performers of avant-garde piano music (and a gifted composer as well). REPERTOIRE: [Xenakis] Herma (1960-61, dedicated to Yuji Takahashi); [Reynolds] Fantasy for Pianist (1963-64); [Y. Takahashi] Metatheses (1968); [Brown] Corroboree (1963-64). CONDITION: The LP is remarkably quiet, showing a bit more surface noise (with occasional light pops and crackles) in the Xenakis track. I'm tempted to grade this copy as Very Good Plus but prefer to grade it more conservatively as VG. Its jacket is bright, solid, and unmarked, with moderate shelf-wear and a couple small areas where the clear lamination has loosened. The LP is now in a new audiophile inner sleeve (replacing the plain original) and the entire album is nestled in a strong mylar outer sleeve. It will be cleaned again before being securely packed and promptly shipped, domestically (USA) and internationally.
