Franklin's as-always lavish binding, in a limited signed edition of the 1961 first volume of Catton's Centennial History of the Civil War trilogy. The paper is 60-pound Franklin Library Eggshell Wove Cream, typeface is 10-point Baskerville. Gilt is 22 karat. The Franklin Library, doing what they did best. Bright, tight and a visual treat. With the author's 'A Special Message to Subscribers from William B. Catton (son of the author)', written in 1980 in Middlebury, Vermont for this limited edition, and telling a rather moving 3-page story of the time he spent with his father as he wrote; and, of course, the separate 'Notes from the Editors', a very desirable example.
