The New Caliope, by engraver and amateur musician John Buego, was published quarterly between 1823 and 1825. Each song was illustrated with an attractive engraving on the first page. This is a bound volume of the first 32 songs in the series in a full calf leather binding, about 8.25" tall, most songs comprised of two pages with music and lyrics, printed on one side only. Rough copy with covers detached, spine covering perished, title page absent and bound with the first page of the first song serving as an engraved title, contents page, including the contents of the first four volumes, present. Dark stains to first half dozen pages (still legible), scattered foxing throughout, one page detached, several protective tissues missing, but still an interesting item, quite scarce. Hard Cover.
