Lorsqu'on lui demande ce qu'est pour lui la poésie, il cite souvent une scène de la parodie d'Hamlet écrite par Jules Laforgue : Hamlet prie Horatio de le précéder, afin de dire à sa place, au moment d'entrer en scène, ces mots qui le tuent.
