Paperback. Condition: Very Good. In The Adventures of Ooga and Zeeta, author Gretchen Burman introduces adults and children to The 12 Cs 12 essential life tools that build boys' and girls' social-emotional intelligence to help them successfully navigate life, make good choices, and maximize their happiness. The 12 Cs become a common vocabulary that can be reinforced during childhood before social pressures and outside influences take a stronger hold - helping both adults and children be better prepared and respond more effectively when challenges arise. Through relatable stories, interactive activities, and tips for kids, the book provides the language to proactively and reactively discuss life's anxieties, obstacles, and how to grow up in a way that is positive, healthy, and fun. Through the use of thought-provoking and memorable characters, children also learn the power of positive thinking - how to keep their negative inner voice quiet while being self-compassionate. The book can be used to initiate conversations or as a reference guide to be read over and over again as life happens. As a result of witnessing Ooga and Zeeta successfully work through challenges similar to their own, readers will feel encouraged and inspired that they are not alone. Everyone has ups and downs - that's part of growing up - but the goal of The 12 Cs is to help children learn how to make their ups last longer and make their downs end more quickly. The 12 Cs will fill their life skills toolbox so they can lead a more fulfilled, balanced, and positive life for both themselves and their community.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. Despite their passion and fury, contemporary Americans are remarkably clueless about how their tax system works. But with heated debates over taxation now roiling Congress and the nation, an understanding of our tax system is of vital importance. Taxes in America, by preeminent tax scholars Leonard E. Burman and Joel Slemrod, offers a clear, concise explanation of how our tax system works, how it affects people and businesses, and how it might be improved. Accessibly written and organized in a clear, question-and-answer format, the book describes the intricacies of the modern tax system in an easy-to-grasp manner. Burman and Slemrod begin with the basic definitions of taxes and then delve into more complicated and indeed contentious concerns. They address such questions as how to recognize Fool's Gold tax reform plans. How much more tax could the IRS collect with better enforcement? How do tax burdens vary around the world? Why do corporations pay so little tax, even though they earn trillions of dollars every year? And what kind of tax system is most conducive to economic growth.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. For nearly 200 years, until their suppression in 1312 on charges of heresy and magical practices, the Order of the Poor Knights of the Temple of Solomon--better known as the Templars--were the most formidable and feared fighting machine in Christendom. Hardback. Condition: Good. Exciting investigations in northwest China are about to reveal more of the mysteries of the huge mausoleum of the Qin Emperor, a portion of which was accidently discovered in 1974 by farmers who were digging a well. The second phase of an international research project began in 2011 and is ongoing. More recently still, promising new excavations began in Pit 2, with exciting fresh discoveries already announced. The Terracotta Warriors seeks to examine one of China's most famous archaeological discoveries in light of these new findings. The book begins with the discovery of the terracotta warriors and then tells the history of the Qin Dynasty and as much as is known about the construction of the 3rd century bce mausoleum, based on the work of the historian Sima Qian (145-90 bce). He wrote that the First Emperor was buried with palaces, towers, officials, valuable artifacts, and wondrous objects. According to this account, one hundred flowing rivers were simulated using mercury; the ceiling was decorated with heavenly bodies, high above the features of the land. The new findings and the description of the mausoleum based on the quoted historical accounts suggest that the next discoveries may surpass the size and conception of the original discovery of the terracotta warriors. In the second part, Edward Burman asks: Who built it and how? He also questions the role of the terracotta warriors, who may be servants and not warriors, and what their function may have been in the afterlife. Finally, he anticipates the ongoing discoveries and describes the new methods of excavation and preservation.…
