This book provides a detailed account of the early phase of the Dutch revolt against Spanish rule in the Netherlands, focusing on the period from 1576 to 1578. During this time, the Spanish governor of the Netherlands, Don John of Austria, attempted to negotiate a settlement with the rebellious provinces, but his efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. The author provides a nuanced and detailed analysis of the political and military events of the period, drawing on a wide range of primary sources. This book will be of interest to historians, students, and anyone interested in the history of the Dutch revolt. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
