Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. STORIES OF MY HOME FOLKS BY C.A. STEPHENS THE YOUTH S COMPANION 1926 SMALL HARDCOVER. I am pleased to offer: Stories of My Home Folks by C.A. Stephens. This book opens with a short story about the Author and how he became a writer for The Youth s Companion and then goes on to offer some of the stories which made him famous. Wikepedia had a bit of information about him and his career which I summarize here below: Charles Asbury Stephens (October 21, 1844 September 22, 1931) was an American writer who published short stories and articles under the name C. A. Stephens. Stephens was born in Norway, Maine and wrote under the name "Stephens" to avoid embarrassing his family should he fail as a writer. He attended Bowdoin College starting in 1866 but dropped out because of lack of funds. For most of his career he was under contract to The Youth s Companion and, for a time, was their most popular and prolific contributor. Stephens himself estimated that he had written 3,000 short stories. The Youth's Companion put him through medical school so that they could have a staff physician to write scientific articles; he earned his M.D. from Boston University in 1887. This small hard cover book (4 ¼ x 6 ½ inches 231 pages) was published by the Perry Mason Company (The Youth s Companion) of Boston dated 1926. It is bound in maroon cloth with gilt titles and decorations albeit somewhat muted at this point. There is a handwritten inked gift inscription: Compliments of The Youth s Companion Feb. 4, 1927 on the first blank page. This is in addition to a facsimile dedication by the Author after the copyright page. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are a bit dust-dulled, and the colors muted as mentioned. The gilt titles are also tarnished. There is some rubbing and light bumping to the corners-spine tips & gutter but nothing too serious. Inside other than the gift inscription the book is unmarked, and the pages are clean and unblemished without any foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
