Hardcover. Condition: Near Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Anderson, C. W. (illustrator). Reddish hardcover cloth binding clean square and tight with some foxing on endpapers. DJ has chips and a few closed tears. Inscribed on ffep: "To Linda from Andy". DJ flap has in ink a notation that states: Linda = his grand step-daughter. Bought at auction. S. Carver." Checking the way Andy is signed vs. signatures of C. W. Anderson which I have seen, the "A", "n", and "d" are consistent. He had a stepson who did have a daughter, and his family and friends did call him Andy, so I do believe this is an authentic inscription to a family member. 99 pages. This book follows the story of the racehorse, Bobcat, his owner Patsy, and Holley the groom from the story High Courage. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Inscribed by Author(s).
First Edition. Near fine in a very good dust jacket with some pencil scribbling and tracing. Signed in pencil by Anderson on the front free endpaper. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.

Single Sheet. Condition: Fine-. C. W. Anderson (illustrator). First Edition. Original stone lithograph published circa 1950 in a very small edition. Signed and Titled by the Artist in in Pencil. Image size is 9 1/2 inches by 13 1/2 inches. Clarence William Anderson (1891-1971) was a writer and illustrator of children's books, but he also is considered by many to be one of the preeminent equine artists of the 20th century. He was a painter and etcher, but his preferred medium was black and white stone lithigraphy because it enabled him to capture the subtle tones he desired. Black and white reproductions of his lithographs have been published in portfolios and are relatively common. His true stone lithographs, like this one, are scarce, and "The Boss and Scidoo" rarely comes on the market. Ours is a particularly nice example, in near-fine condition, with barely a hint of the toning usually seen in Anderson's lithographs. It is now archivally matted and ready for framing in a standard 18" by 20" frame. Size: 9 1/2 inches by 13 1/2 Inches. SIGNED. Fine Art Print.

Unbound. Anderson, C.W. (illustrator). Limited edition. Original drypoint etching. Image is ca. 13 1/2 x 10 inches, on sheet ca. 19 x 15 inches. Titled, numbered, and signed in pencil by Anderson. A farrier waits in his deserted forge for customers who no longer come. An evocative and unusual subject for Anderson, best known for his Thoroughbred subjects and children's stories. Very small edition (9? 10?--the edition size in the lower left is hard to make out). A nice dark impression. Shipping/handling will be extra; please keep this in mind when ordering. Very good (margins toned, old tape-stains to upper corners of margins).
