Bernard, William Dallas (c1808 - c1866) The Nemesis in China, Comprising A History of the Late War in that Country; With an Account of The Colony of Hong-Kong, from notes of Captain W. H. Hall, RN and personal observations by W.D. Bernard, Esq., A. M. Oxon. London: Henry Colburn, Great Marlborough Street, 1847. Original blind-stamped blue cloth cover with re-backed original spine with gilt title. Very nice, clean, original condition! Original fawn endpapers clean and unmarked apart from a very neat signature (possibly to an admiral?) dated 1866 on the ffep. Contents clean, crisp and unmarked apart from some weak, old dampstain marks on the frontispiece (Nemesis - see image) and on one of the engravings. All the engravings, woodcuts and maps are present, and in complete and clean condition. Clean tissue guard between the frontispiece and titlepage. A very nice copy of this third edition. UK-based copies are in the National Maritime Museum, University of London - SOAS, and the V&A Museum Libraries.
