This book was one of the Pocket Literal Translations of the Classics published by David McKay. Literally translated edition. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for a F/O name stamp on the front and rear free fly pages and note written on the front board. Book Condition: Good; splash stains and soiling to front and rear boards; bumping and light wear to head, tail, and tips. No DJ. Khaki cloth boards and spine with bright green lettering on the spine and front board. Clean internals. Inner hinges are sound and not split. 351 pp 16mo. The Commentaries on the Gallic War treat principally of his career of conquest among the Gauls and are written in the purest Latin characterized by simplicity, ease and elegance. This format is best studies by young Latin students as a masterpiece of literary composition. In spite of losses in translation, this book retains a great deal of the author's beauty and elegance of diction and his force and clearness of expression. A clean presentable copy for reading/study.
