Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First published in 1934, this is an umpteenth impression of 1960. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of colourful jacket of a man repairing a car's engine, some slight rubbing to extremities, faint offsetting to endpapers, price torn rather roughly away, no…inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 477pp, illustrated. A practical, lavishly illustrated guide to repairing the cars of the late 50s and early 60s. Frederick James Camm (1895-1959) was an English technical author and magazine editor. He founded several radio, motoring and electronics titles, including 'Practical Mechanics', 'Practical Motorist', 'Practical Television' and 'Practical Wireless', some of which are still in circulation. A scarce book, even in this later edition.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine Slip Case. First Edition Thus. True Pre-War First Edition. Complete set of 7 miniature double-sided folding maps mapping Great Britain across 14 distinct regional sections. Contained within the publisher's original small black textured slip box (approx. 4" x 2.75") featurin…g exceptionally bright, clear green stamped lettering to the front panel and a complete, matching green-stamped Key Map to the rear panel. An absolutely pristine, collector-grade example in Fine condition overall. The original slip box remains structurally sturdy, tight, and robust, with the 7 individual map booklets fitting snugly inside exactly as issued. Each map booklet is bound in clean, crisp, unlettered plain black cloth boards. Internally, the folding maps are in immaculate, Fine condition, retaining their brilliant colour palettes, sharp red Ministry of Transport road indicators, and crisp original folds, completely free from the split junctions, annotations, or finger-soiling that standardly afflicts these pocket road guides. Historical Summary:A beautiful, evocative piece of late-1930s British social and transport history, compiled by the legendary editor and engineer F. J. Camm. Designed explicitly as a practical, lightweight touring companion for the interwar cycling boom, each of the 7 double-sided maps collapses down to a compact 16mo pocket size. Alongside the detailed regional cartography scaled at 8 miles to the inch, each volume includes Camm's signature 'Useful Information for Cyclists' compendium, detailing contemporary cycling laws, railway transit rates, and early national camping regulations. Every effort has been made to verify the presence and pristine condition of all 7 double-sided booklets mapping sections 1 through 14 (encompassing England, Wales, and parts of Scotland). While the regional boundaries and transport data align perfectly with the known 1938-1939 Newnes print states, minor variations in pre-war municipal boundary allocations may exist in the historical plates. High-resolution photographs of the custom green-stamped box panels, the snug interior layout, and several immaculate open maps are fully uploaded as an integral part of this listing for the buyer's exact inspection.
