Le premier texte, première édition allemande des Quaestiones de l'érudit génois polyvalent et fécond Pietro Andrea Canonieri, parut l'année passée à Rome, s'affranchit résolument de la reconstitution des idéaux et des voies de la Ğ cour parfaite ğ, du discours sur le butin et des règles pédantesques du petit monde fermé de la cour et de ses oligarchies ennuyeuses, pour faire face à des problèmes plus vastes : les meilleures formes de gouvernance, le rapport entre les pratiques du pouvoir et la conception religieuse, le degré d'autonomie et de personnalité juridique de l'État absolu, l'utilité de l'histoire, le conflit entre les intérêts du Prince et le bien collectif 1. Le second est l'édition originale de la seconde partie du Ğ Trésor politique ğ bilingue (latin avec version italienne en regard) du juriste et historien slovène de langue italienne Giulio Belli dont la première partie fut publiée un an plus tôt. Tout emprunt du Tacitisme analysé dans le premier texte, Le Trésor politique, condamné par l'Eglise en 1615, expose la prudence, une Ğ vertu pratique ğ, c'est-à-dire qui a rapport à la praxis, à l'action, à travers de nombreuses instructions et rapports diplomatiques, des traités et divers écrits politiques sur la géographie, la vie sociale, les conditions démographiques et les systèmes de gouvernance dans de nombreux pays du monde 2. Le dernier, dû au canoniste, théologien et économiste basque-espagnol Martín de Azpilcueta, l'un des plus grands penseurs de son temps (inventeur de la théorie de la valeur-rareté bien connue des amateurs d'art), parut en 1550 à Coimbra, apparaît ici quant à lui dans sa seule et unique réédition. Totalement oublié, il doit être considéré notamment comme la première monographie consacrée à l'étude de la contrebande de guerre 3. Ces trois textes sont rares. PROVENANCE : Annibal Codret, marque de provenance et ex-dono au titre, Ğ Dom. S. Lud. Soc. Jesu ğ et Ğ Author dono dedit P. Annibali. ğ L'ouvrage fut donc initialement donné par l'auteur au père jésuite Annibal Codret. Né à Sallanches en Savoie, Codret fit ses études à Paris et à Padoue. Il prit dans l'université de cette dernière ville ses grades de docteur en médecine, et entra, en 1548, dans la compagnie de Jésus. Ses supérieurs le mirent successivement à la tête des colléges de Lyon, de Chambéry, de Turin et de Tournon. Il possédait parfaitement les langues hébraïque , grecque et latine. Son rudiment latin qui a servi de modèle à celui de Langres, à celui d'Angers et sans doute à plusieurs autres, et dont la dernière édition paraît être celle d'Annecy, 1722, a été imprimé un grand nombre de fois. Il mourut provincial d'Aquitaine à Avignon, le 19 septembre 1599, dans un âge fort avancé. Les ex-dono d'auteurs du XVIe siècle sont de la plus grande rareté. Charles de Valois-Angoulême (1573-1650), à ses armes Ğ De France, au bâton péri en barre d'or ğ et chiffre, comte d'Auvergne, puis duc d'Angoulême, comte de Ponthieu, pair de France, chevalier de Malte et prieur de la langue de France. Fils légitimé du roi Charles IX, Charles a joui de la protection de son oncle le roi Henri III et de Catherine de Médicis qui l'appelait le Ğ petit bâtard ğ, et lui légua les comtés d'Auvergne et de Lauraguais. Il connut une faveur croissante à la cour, si bien qu'Henri III le traita comme son fils et que dans les 15 derniers mois de son règne, il devint - avec Roger de Bellegarde - le nouveau favori, remplaçant les deux archimignons déchus, Joyeuse et Epernon. Marié à la fille du connétable de Montmorency, il se distingua sur le terrain de plusieurs batailles : Arques, Ivry, Fontaine-Française, etc. Condamné à la prison à perpétuité en 1605 pour ses intrigues avec sa demi-soeur, Catherine Henriette d'Entragues, marquise de Verneuil, maîtresse d'Henri IV, il recouvra la liberté en 1616, grâce à l'entregent de la reine-mère Marie de Médicis, mère du jeune Louis XIII. Dès sa sortie de prison, le duc d'Angoulême prit les armes au siège de Soisson, et en 1628, à celui de La Rochelle, puis continua à guerroyer sur tous les fronts : Languedoc, Allemagne, Flandres, etc. Bibliophile renommé, auteur de plusieurs ouvrages et mémoires, sa bibliothèque fut léguée par son fils Louis, comte d'Alais, au monastère des Minimes de La Guiche, dans le Charolais, d'où l'ex-libris manuscrit sur la page de titre : Ğ ex bibliotheca minimorum guichiensium ğ.
