The book was the personal property of Peter Du Cane. I have a number of his books. Dedication o/p in ink period writing To Peter from Grannie Christmas 1910. Unlike other books I have, Du Cane has not personally signed it but there are 3 of his personal stamps on the half title page. Condition: Tears top and bottom of spine. Wear on edges boards showing. Back bottom left corner discoloured. General wear on cover and edges. Half title page some foxing + cracked down seam, but binding holding firm. P209 seam cracked. Illust on P273 loose + scuffed on edges. The odd mark, but in the main clean. Overall Fair + condition.

Spine faded. Clean, unmarked pages. Frederick Sadleir Brereton (1872-1957) served in the British Army in the Boer War and the First World War in the Royal Army Medical Corps. (Later promoted to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel). He wrote over 40 books describing heroic deeds of the British Empire for young people.
