The first edition. Bound in the publisher's original yellow cloth. Very scarce work. Written by Captain C. Wightwick, and English military man and author, who travelled greatly for his work, being appointed the District Commissioner or Kenya and a Political Officer of Jubaland during his career. 'To The Mysterious Lorian Swamp' documents one of Wightwick's intense, and often dangerous, expeditions. In this particular mission, the author was leading a team with the aim to set up a trade route through the Lorian Swamp, an largely unexplored area of wetlands in Northern Kenya. Illustrated with twenty-four photographic depictions, and a folding map to the rear. Lacking two plates.With twelve pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.Ink inscription 'To Philip Salkald', dated 1928. Bound in the publisher's original yellow cloth. Externally, very good, with light bumping to the extremities. Boards are lightly soiled, with slight discolouration. Light spots to the fore edge. Ink inscription to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, with scattered spotting throughout. Lacking plates to face pages 136 and 152. A closed tear to the margin of page 271 and to the extremity of the folding map. Very Good. book.
