Soft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. 1971. Sheikh Mujibur Rehman in East Pakistan has just won an electoral mandate to become the prime minister of Pakistan. Accustomed to treating the eastern wing of the country as a colony, the ruling disposition in West Pakistan is not pleased, and launches a genocide against the resident…s of East Pakistan, flooding India with lakhs of refugees. With the violence in East Pakistan reaching a crescendo, the Indian government is faced with a difficult option: remain a mute spectator to the savagery on its eastern borders, or take action and go to war against its western neighbour. Thus was born Naval Commando Operation (X) comprising Indian navy officers and divers, eight deserters from a Pakistani submarine and a ragtag bunch of Bengali youth fleeing the genocide one of India s largest clandestine operations, meant to destabilize the West Pakistani efforts to bring East Pakistan to its knees. Revealed for the very first time, here is the explosive authentic account of the guerrilla operation that went for the maritime jugular of Pakistan, and facilitated the birth of Bangladesh.

Condition: New. 2010 N&M Press reprint (original pub 1880). SB 54 ppPublished Price £8.50 As this intriguing little book shows, there is nothing new about tensions between the media and military in the coverage of wars. Archibald Forbes was a Private soldier who re-invented himself as the Premier war correspondent of the late V…ictorian Age. Working for the âDaily Newsâ he covered the Franco-Prussian War, the Russo-Turkish War, sundry wars in the Balkans and India - and the Zulu War of 1879. His coverage was extremely critical of the British commander, Lord Chelmsford, whose ineptness, in Forbesâ eyes, had helped lead to the disaster of Isandlhwana whan a British force was wiped out by the Zulus. This book, written by a tactics instructor at Sandhurst officer training college, is a robust defence of Chelmsfordâs conduct of the campaign. It must be said, however, that most modern historians have tended to echo Forbesâ critique of the hapless Chelmsford.

Condition: New. 2009 N&M Press reprint (original pub 1927). SB. 84pp with two maps. Published Price £11.50 This is a brisk account, compiled in 1923, eight years after the events it narrates, of the doings of the 1st and 2nd (Regular) battalions of the âGlorious Glostersâ in the opening weeks of the Great War. Flung into France… as part of the BEF in August 1914, the Regiment passed through the furnace of some of the fiercest fighting during those chaotic weeks, including the Retreat from Mons and the First abttle of Ypres, wheh the German avance was finally stemmed and held. Compiled from the recollections of those who survived, this is a valuable account of the proud fighting record of the old regular army that was practically destroyed in the fighting narrated here.
