Cloth. Condition: Good. Not Stated (illustrator). First edition. An exceptionally scarce, first edition of this extensive early 20th century study of high explosives and chemical applications, with numerous illustrations throughout. First edition. Very scarce work. An important early practical treatise on high explosives, with a particular focus on the manufacturing of these chemical compounds. The author explores the history of high explosives, the raw materials, a wide selection of chemicals employed in this practice, as well as the various uses and efficacies. Written by Captain Edward de Wykersley Swyft Colver, with the aim of filling a "marked gap in English technical literature". Possibly due to the recent development of high explosives, the author claimed that the field was previously deficient in relevant information on the subject, leading to the creation of this comprehensive and highly informative work. With 14 plates and 141 additional in-text illustrations throughout. Collated, complete. Bound in the publisher's cloth. Externally, sound, with bumping to the extremities. Damp staining to front board extremities, to the spine and to the rear board. Light marking to cloth and fading to the spine. Book has a slight lean. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Good. book.
