Carmen Bernos de Gasztold (1919 ? 1995) was a French poet and nun. She spent her childhood in the province of Bordeaux, France. She had 5 sisters and brothers. After World War II she went to live at the Benedictine Abbaye Saint Louis du Temple at Limon-par-Igny.The English translation was written by Rumer Godden (1907?1998) who went to the Benedictine Abbey in France and spent time with the poet to do the translation.

No inscriptions but for gilft message in top right corner of ffep. It reads: 'To.in the hope that you will one day enjoy some of these.' These poetic prayers are for adults as much as older children conveying heartfelt insight, often interjected with humour. Tight binding. The paper covered boards with a green cloth spine has minor wear. The patterned paper cover on front & back boards is only seen on the early Macmillan publications. The jacket is price clipped and has a little wear which is mainly showing at the top of the spine. It also has a little discolouration as is commonly seen for this early edition. It is in a removable, clear protective cover. 71 pages. Foreword by Rumer Godden + Epilogue at back on the author's life. 27 prayers, each delightfully illustrated with a phrase or short sentence in French beneath each picture.
