A narrative of salmon fishing experiences, some in Scotland but largely on the River Dovey (Afon Dyfi) in Wales. The engraved plates include some of the named pools on the Dyfi. .

Publisher's dark blue blind-stamped cloth with gilt title on the spine and gilt vignette (a mayfly) on the front board. Yellow endpapers. = The pseudonym "Clericus" suggests that the author bel…onged to the clergy. He is generally believed to be the reverend William Cartwright. A nicely illustrated work with a large appendix which includes, for instance, a "Life of flies from March to September". This part with a few pencilled marginalia. Small private library label of Alan John Jarvis on the front pastedown. Some rubbing to the board and sopine edges, a bit cocked, some scattered foxing, otherwise in very good condition.
