A good copy.Extremely rare edition, presumably printed in India in the Kanara (or Canara) region around 1857, of this catechism which includes several different texts allegedly translated from the French into Canarese or Kannada language.In response to the growth of missionary activity (particularly by the Jesuits and Protestant missionaries from Basel), reprints and new, adapted versions of these catechisms were regularly published in the region during the 1850s and 60s. In fact, a new edition of the catechism and other texts is announced in English at p. 3 of the first part. The ecclesiastical structure of this region at that time was primarily under the jurisdiction of the Apostolic Vicariate of Mangalore and the coastal territories under the jurisdiction of Verapoly.
