Ogni illustrazione è ispirata a un concetto aritmetico. Condizioni discrete nel complesso con strappetti e imperfezioni, macchie, piccolo scarabocchio a matita. Le singole pagine sono perlopiù in buone condizioni.

In-8°, pp. 40 di testo, cartonatura editoriale con sovraccoperta a stampa in rosso e nero con riproduzione di una caricatura di Cham. 30 tavv. in b.n. a pagina intera riproducenti le caricature di Cham sulla speculazione alla Borsa di Parigi. Ottimo stato. Ripubblicazione curata dal Caron (cui si deve il lungo saggio introduttivo) delle caricature con cui Cham intese irridere i febbrili investimenti e le bolle speculative della finanza francese del proprio tempo. L'edizione originale risale al 1860, e fu impressa per i tipi della Maison Martinet di Parigi. Cham (Parigi, 1818-1879), figlio del conte Louis de Noé (lo pseudonimo deriva, appunto, dal nome del biblico figlio di Noé), pari di Francia, fu il caricaturista più acclamato del suo tempo, allora preferito allo stesso Daumier per i suoi molti albi e gli innumerevoli disegni apparsi su Le Charivari, opere che gli valsero larghi consensi anche in Inghilterra (suoi lavori apparvero sul Punch e su The Pupper Show).

Charles Amédée De Noé, Known As Cham (1818 - 1879), Was A French Caricaturist And Lithographer. Raised By A Family Who Wished Him To Attend A Polytechnic School, He Instead Attended Painting Workshops By Nicolas Charlet And Paul Delaroche And Began Work As A Cartoonist, Taking On The Pseudonym "Cham". In 1839 He Published His First Book, Monsieur Lajaunisse, Which Began A Career That Would Span 40,000 Drawings. In 1843 He Began To Be Published In Newspapers Like Le Charivari, Whose Staff He Was On For Thirty Years. Later Works Included Proudhon En Voyage And Histoire Comique De L'assemblée Nationale. He Wrote A Number Of Comic Plays Towards The End Of His Life.
