Philosophe, il publia des "Caractères des Passions" entre 1640 et 1662, mais l'on retient surtout son "Traité de la Connaissance des Animaux", pièce maîtresse dans le débat sur "l'âme des bêtes", dans lequel il expose des idées opposées à celle de Descartes. Cureau de la Chambre y polémique avec Pierre Chanet et défend la thèse d'images des choses formées par les animaux, associées à des images innées. Le privilège est daté du 4 mai 1648, et il est intéressant de peut noter que la date initiale imprimée en page de titre (MDCXLVII) a été manifestement corrigée a posteriori (en MDCXLVIII) par l'ajout d'un "I". Rare exemplaire de l'édition originale. Prix en l'état pour cet exemplaire à restaurer (premier plat détaché, reliure fort. frottée, assez discrète mouill. en marge sup., bon état intérieur par ailleurs) Langue: Français.
