Hardcover. Condition: Good. Limited Edition. 250 copies printed by The Grabhorn Press. Preface by Oscar Lewis. 15 3/4 x 10; frontispiece reproducing a colored drawing by Choris; i-vi, 1-16pp.; bound in orange boards with red cloth back, lettered in gilt. six full page colored drawings. Spine cloth faded; rubbing to leading corner tips with wear through on the top and bottom of front cover; offset tanning to endpapers Von Chamisso (1781-1838), a German naturalist of French descent went to California in 1816 with the first expedition of Kotzebue's voyage into the South Sea and Beering's Straits. Of the several accounts of that voyage, von Chamisso's is the most detailed and of general interest regarding their stay in the bay of San Francisco.
