Feuille de papier Japon : 35,8 x 26,8 cm environ | cuivre : 17,8 x 12,1 cm Tirage à très petit nombre sur papier vélin contrecollé (entièrement - vélin appliqué) sur beau papier du Japon de grand format. Épreuve sans la lettre en bas de la gravure qui est normalement titrée : L'AMOUR AUX CHAMPES (en lettres capitales). Cette épreuve contrecollée sur Grand Japon était réservée aux 100 exemplaires de Grand Luxe de l'ouvrage précité. (1 des 2 états). Ici sur très grand Japon bien plus grand que le Japon le plus grand pour le livre. Signé dans la planche en bas à droite. Très belle épreuve. Parfait état. Superbe tirage d'époque. Voir photos. RARE. Ce sujet avait fait l'objet d'une étude dès 1872. Les variantes entre l'essai de 1872 et cette épreuve de 1884 sont importantes. Le 30 mars (probablement 1883) Félicien Rops écrit à son ami Octave Uzanne : "Cher,J'arrive de Montlignon où j'ai passé un jour à déménager (!! !! !! !- J'attends un costume de paysan que doit m'envoyer Lintelo & le mannequin que doit me prêter un vieux camarade à moi pour « faire la femme » dans les bras de mon modèle. Le mien est cassé Ce n'est donc que mercredi tout au matin que cela sera en train. D'ici là pour ne pas perdre de temps, je mets en scène « le brouillon » du frontispice « des amours ».Tu pourras de cette façon demain voir si cela te va.J'adopterai la dimension 24 - 36 mais tu verras que cela sera la même chose ! - Cela tient à ce ton photographe mesure mal son point de départ. Cela m'est arrivé une fois avec cet âne de Billard le photographe, je suis allé chez lui je lui ai marquéun encadrement sur sa glace. Je devais avoir 9 sur 14. Mon dessin était de 12-17. En diminuant de tous cotés, comme cela devait arriver, de 3 centimêtres cela devait m'amener 9 sur 14 ou le Diable [.] Le 30 mars je crois bien que le bout du sillon sera fini !
