10-1/2" x 16" broadsheet, folded accordion style to 4" x 10-1/2". [8] panels, illustrations. Five panels with books and products offered by Dr. Rea; two panels with printed letter from Dr. Rea with a New York address, an order form, and facsimile signature; one panel with testimonial letters from F.G. Dennis of the Bank of Wellston of Oklahoma; and H.P. Brown of Oakland Farm of North Carolina. Several panels have additional testimonials from customers in Missouri, Nebraska, Mississippi, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kentucky, Illinois, Canadian Indian Territories. Old folds, light toning, occasional short fold splits [no loss, repaired with archival tape]. Very Good. This is certainly an unusual trade brochure. Dr. Rea's contraption, illustrated here, promises to cure the stallion's "vicious habit of self-abuse. Its effects are far-reaching and of such a serious nature that many a good stallion and jack has been ruined by it." Dr. Charles L. Rea advertised himself as a veterinarian, attorney, and businessman, with offices in New York and Kansas City, Missouri. He was best known for his work with horses, and for his products produced at the Dr. Charles L. Rea's Serum Company, in Kansas City. His horse product advertisements appeared frequently in the American Journal of Veterinary Medicine, The Horse Review, and The Country Gentleman. This brochure claims that his "Breeding Outfit" is "the greatest money-maker ever invented," which will "more than double the income of any stallion or jack". The order blank is provided for those who want to order the set of an Impregnator, Thermometer, Speculum and 1904 Breeders' Bag for $15. His Stallion and Jack Alarm Shield contains an illustration of the product and claims that it works "by means of an elastic surcingle, a shield with a metal net is fixed under the penis in such a manner that when the penis is extended it presses against an alarm bell that rings continuously until the stallion or jack desists." Illustrations are also included of the safety bit and breeding hobbles.
