Buch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - With almost a third of the world's population living in South and Southeast Asia, these regions are particularly vulnerable to climate catastrophes such as rising sea levels, harsh weather, and changing disease patterns. They have impacted the regions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and Goal 13 (Climate Action), which also put a burden on healthcare systems, especially among vulnerable populations. This book explores the impact of climate change on both physical and mental health, healthcare infrastructure, and practices in these vulnerable regions, proposing strategies for resilience and preparedness. In addition, the volume offers case studies and state-of-the-art research, providing insights into the infrastructure problems and health hazards associated with climate change. The book begins with an examination of the health effects of climate change, including heatwaves, poor air quality, vector-borne diseases, psychological impacts and nutritional insecurities. The second section focuses on healthcare systems, climate-resilient facilities, supply chain adjustments, and the role of telemedicine and climate-focused public health surveillance. The final section evaluates policy responses, community resilience, and international cooperation, including financial mechanisms to support climate-resilient health systems. The book is a valuable resource for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and researchers, and it provides evidence-based insights and practical recommendations to strengthen public health frameworks against the growing climate challenges in South and Southeast Asia.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book presents the three pillars of Disaster Risk Management (DRM): communication, innovation, and science and technology. These three pillars are applied across five dimensions, namely risk identification and reduction, preparedness, financial protection, resilient recovery, and risk-informed investments in South Asia. In the coming decades, the region will experience rapid economic development and population growth, which, combined with the effects of climate change, will increase the likelihood of being affected by hazards. As hazards can negatively impact every sector of the economy and undo years of economic progress, effective measures to reduce the risk must be incorporated into development plans and poverty reduction strategies.Technological advances have opened up previously unimaginable opportunities to strengthen resilience and improve communications. In the South Asia, it has been experienced that the prevention of hazards and the development of emergency plans enabled by advances in communications and space technology can be much more successful and significantly costly effective than in the past. The use of space technology in disaster monitoring, early warning, and emergency response and for response has shown remarkable efficiency. New approaches to Disaster Risk Management (DRM) are becoming more available due to recent advances in space and communication technology. This book focuses on the use and innovation of space technology and communication for DRM in two specific areas: the Early Warning System (EWS) and the Disaster Information Management System (DIMS).

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Landslides constitute 4.89 percent of all natural disaster around the world. 15 percent of the Indian land mass is at risk from different forms of landslides and has five major landslide zones. India owing to its varying geology and climatic factors has always been at constant risk. The recent urbanization and mechanization has aggravated the situation as a result the frequency of landslides in the hilly terrain has gone up in the recent years. Kalimpong in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal has seen major landslides in the past. Thirty landslide locations are found in and around Kalimpong town and post cyclone Aila there have been major landslides in the area. The study tries to locate the different zones where the probability of landslides are high and identify the region specific factors causing landslide in the area. Group discussions, field visits, photography have been used to do primary data collection. Based on the findings certain remedial measures are suggested to prevent and mitigate future incidence of landslides in the region.
