Édition originale qui fut mise à l'index à Rome.Christophe Cheffontaines (1532-1595) général des Cordeliers, ajoutait à son nom celui de Penfeunteniou ; ce nom vient du breton Pen, Tête ou Chef, et de Feunteunyou, Fontainies : Cheffontaines, A Capite Fontium.La censure romaine empêcha l'auteur de continuer l'ouvrage. Les exemplaires en sont, pour la plupart, mutilés et imparfaits. On a substitué à la feuille signée E, la même feuille d'un autre traité de Cheffontaines, intitulé De veteri ritu celebrandi missam, et, dans cette substitution, il n'y a d'autre rapport que celui de la lettre de signature et celui des chiffres des pages. Quelques savants ont pensé que Cheffontaines expliquait, dans la feuille supprimée par ordre de ses supérieurs, des décrets du concile de Trente, ce qui était défendu. On trouve aussi des exemplaires où la feuille de la signature E a été réimprimée.
