Édition originale fort rare.Fable où l'imagination populaire se mêle aux récits de voyage : le Monde de Mercure nous est révélé par un manuscrit arabe que traduit le narrateur, fruit des observations faites au « microscope philosophique », téléscope inventé par un Rosecroix. Les hommes peuvent échapper à la mort, à l'âge, au sommeil, règlent eux-mêmes leur circulation de sang, tandis que les animaux domestiques sont chargés des travaux et que la nature fournit elle-même les subsistances des habitants.« Le Chevalier de Béthune peuple la planète Mercure de chérubins libertins qui communiquent avec les animaux, jouent à des loteries magiques et ont des contrats de mariage courts et renouvelables.
