Trove records the first newspaper reviews for this novel of station life in October 1896. We have not identified the handwriting, but it is highly likely this is a presentation inscription from the author herself to Sir George Houstoun Reid (1845-1918), at the time Premier of NSW, later (August 1904 to July 1905) the fourth Prime Minister of Australia, and Australia's first High Commissioner in London (1910-1916).
