Contact seller5-star sellerEarly printing (no direct edition/printing statement upon copyright page but with Harper's "D-D" letter code indicting April 1954) INSCRIBED, DATED, AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. i-ii, [frontispiece], iii-xii, 1-116, [16], 117-369 pages. Hardcover: H 21.75cm x L 14.75cm. Dust jacket well rubbed and soiled with some stains; old verso… tape repair to lengthwise tear at front panel's spine fold; recent verso tape repair to extended tear at rear panel's spine fold; tearing to rear flap fold; chipping, creasing, and wear at edges; front flap retains publisher's printed price ($5.00) at top right corner; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Blue cloth; spine lettering remains fairly bright; front board's gilt stamped facsimile author signature remains quite bright (and matches the General's actual handwritten example on ffep). Text block edges toned; deckle fore-edge. Toning and some stains to endpapers; past owner's ink stamp "Jack B. Farris, Jr." and author's six-line ink inscription "To Cadet Jack Farris: | With the admiration | of the author | Mark W. Clark. | The Citadel | Nov. 21, 1957" respectively located at ffep's top right and at center; some occasional light stains to interior leaves; one small pencil check mark found in fore-edge margin of page 106 with no other such markings discovered upon a cursory perusal (but possible that others are present); some mustiness to book from prolonged storage. Foldout b/w map of Korea should be bound-in between pages 34-35 but deftly removed and now laid-in instead; map has ink and pencil notes on its blank verso. Binding is firm. Inscribee is U.S. Army Lt. General Jack B. Farris, Jr. who graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science from The Citadel in 1958 prior to an illustrious military career in which he served in Vietnam and the invasions of Grenada and Panama. General Mark Clark served as President of the Citadel from 1954-1965. Book was acquired from a Marion, Alabama estate with no immediate connection to General Farris known but quite likely there was some linkage via the town's Marion Military Institute. FROM THE DANUBE TO THE YALU was first published by Harper in March 1954.
