Published by The Gymnasium Boys' High School, Paarl, 1924
Seller: Snookerybooks, Philippolis, South Africa
First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. The book is in two parts. The first is an account of Paarl, as it was in 1924. This is divided into seven topics such as Educational Paarl, Sporting Paarl, Racial and Associative Paarl, etc. The second section takes these selfsame rubrics and asks the pupils to envisage them as they might be a century hence ie. in 2024. This section is particularly fascinating (as are its illustrations!) and accounts for the last third of the volume. This is an extraordinarily accomplished piece of work. The boards are shelfrubbed and worn at all extremities with wear to the upper edge of the spine resulting in some incipient splitting. There is a faded previous owner's name to the front pastedown and some light browning to the ffep. 171pp with many b/w plates and just a very occasional bit of light browning. Pages 17-24 have a sl. indentation bump at the extreme outer edge. Although there is an incipient crack at the front joint the hinge is unaffected and the binding is still very good.
