Add to basketPaperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book analyzes the legal basis for a claim to Northwest Territory land cessions by Virginia in 1784 and explores the subsequent lawsuit filed by West Virginia to recover these lands or compensation for their loss. The complex and multifaceted arguments are thoroughly examined with reference to historical context, prior legal precedent, and constitutional principles. The author delves into the history of Virginia's territorial claims, the conditions of the land cession, and the legal basis for West Virginia's claim. The book also explores the broader implications of the case for understanding the relationship between states and the federal government, and the role of the courts in interpreting and enforcing constitutional principles. Ultimately, this book provides a comprehensive analysis of the legal and historical aspects of the case, offering valuable insights into the complexities of land law and the ongoing debate over states' rights and federal authority. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
