I saggi qui raccolti attraversano momenti importanti della rilettura che, nell'arco di quasi trent'anni, Massimo Barale ha proposto della prospettiva trascendentale, rendendola asse portant…e della propria riflessione filosofica, centrale in volumi come Filosofia come esperienza trascendentale. Sartre (1977), Kant e il metodo della filosofia (1988). Muovendo dalla sua matrice kantiana, su cui ritorna più volte, mostrandone possibilità e punti critici, Barale indaga gli sviluppi della filosofia trascendentale nella fenomenologia di Husserl, nel pensiero di Heidegger, e si confronta con le ricerche più recenti della filosofia della mente e delle scienze cognitive. Massimo Barale (1941-2015) si è formato a Pisa dove ha avuto come maestri Arturo Massolo, Francesco Barone e Giorgio Colli. Ha insegnato Filosofia morale e Filosofia teoretica all'università di Pisa, con una parentesi di tre anni all'università di Genova (1994-97). È stato direttore di «Studi kantiani» e della «Rivista internazionale di filosofia e psicologia». Tra i suoi interessi si segnalano la filosofia classica tedesca (in particolare Kant e Hegel), la filosofia francese del Novecento (Bergson e Sartre), l'etica filosofica, le teorie della ragione e della soggettività, la fenomenologia husserliana e, da ultimo, la filosofia della mente e le scienze cognitive. In tutti questi ambiti, Barale ha fatto valere la prospettiva di una filosofia come ricerca criticotrascendentale. Su Kant è imprescindibile lettura il suo Kant e il metodo della filosofia (1988); tra i suoi volumi più importanti vanno ricordati anche Filosofia come esperienza trascendentale. Sartre (1977), Il tramonto del liberale. Sartre e la crisi della teoria politica (1981), Immagini della ragione. Logos e ratio all'alba della scienza moderna (1983), Ermeneutica e morale (1988), Il Dio ragionevole. Percorsi etici e ontologici del primo idealismo tedesco (1992), e Betrachtungen über den geschichtlichphilosophischen Hintergrund und den systematischen Ort von Kants Kritik der Urteilskraft (1997).
