Born on April 29, 1933, in Los Angeles, California, he initially pursued acting in the early 1950s with the Folksay Theater troupe and appeared in films including The True Story of Jesse James (1957), before shifting focus to writing. (.) His work often explored personal history, language, and outsider perspectives, developed outside mainstream publishing channels.
